ABOUT US

We are passionate about helping women in all phases of life achieve optimal function by providing them the treatment, resources, and knowledge to empower them to live healthy, active lifestyles. We combine manual therapy skills and exercise prescription to improve fitness and function.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

We believe in a holistic approach to healthcare and look at the body as a whole to assess the true underlying causes of your symptoms.  When assessing the pelvic floor, we will assess your functional movement patterns in addition to specific and isolated muscle testing, as the pelvic floor has to work WITH the rest of your body.

We believe that the right combination of hands-on manual physical therapy and exercise based strengthening is necessary for success.  You will receive personalized treatment strategies that provide an integrative approach to physical therapy.

We believe that postpartum does not have a time limit, and it’s never “too late” to get help.

We believe that nobody should have to live with pelvic, abdominal, hip, or back pain. Even if you’ve never had a child, pelvic dysfunction can still be present, and we can help!

We believe that physical therapy is a team effort.  Our goal is to empower patients with the knowledge and information to progress in your journey and keep symptoms from returning.

Helen Murphy

Physical Therapist, Masters of Physical Therapy

Helen became a physical therapist because of her love and admiration for what the human body is capable of. Her interest in women’s health began 19 years ago as a result of seeing so many women suffer in silence because of the lack of attention given to pelvic dysfunction in the medical profession. She truly believes the connection between mind, body and spirit should be addressed for optimal healing and enhanced quality of life through all phases. She feels the pelvic floor component of therapy is often the missing puzzle piece for women to reach maximum potential in their healing and recovery. She has advanced clinical skills and training in womens health, manual therapy, kinesiotaping, myofascial release with emphasis on pelvic floor, prenatal and postpartum rehabilitation and post-pelvic surgery recovery.

Helen joins our team with over 20 years of experience as a physical therapist, working primarily in the Chicago area prior to moving to Hampton Roads. After earning her BS in Biology at Loyola University in Chicago, she went on to earn her Masters of Science in Physical Therapy at Midwestern University Downers Grove in Illinois.

She loves being active and challenging her mental and physical abilities. When she is not working, she loves traveling with her husband, engaging in various water sports (jet skiing, wake surfing, paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming), and participating in charity runs/events.

Dr. Hannah’s passion for Physical Therapy began during a comprehensive Pilates teacher training program. During her training she became intrigued with how the body works and being able to heal through movement. In 2017, Dr. Hannah enrolled in the Physical Therapy program at the Medical University of South Carolina as part of the 2020 graduating class.

With her background in Pilates, Dr. Hannah always had a vision of merging the two worlds and bringing her love for Pilates and her newfound love for Physical Therapy together. Since graduating, she has worked with the pregnancy and postpartum population to help empower women to live their best and healthiest life through movement.

To broaden her knowledge of pelvic floor dysfunction and health, Dr. Hannah has taken several courses through the Herman & Wallace Institute and the Postural Restoration Institute.

In her free time, she loves to travel with her family and two dogs, get a workout in when she can, and try the newest restaurants in town.
